What is trauma?  Well basically trauma can be described as an emotional memory from the past which we have not been able to properly process and emotionally neutralise.

Trauma Therapy

Fragments of the traumatic memory can get ‘frozen’ or ‘locked’ in the nervous system, unfortunately these can often get reactivated by triggers in the present.

Consequently, this can lead to the individual re-experiencing the trauma and the distress that it brings. This can show itself as an upsurge of emotions, altered physical states, behavioural disturbance, chronic negative thinking, dissociation and more.  Sadly, these can narrow and limit our life: for example, it can generate avoidance, impact negatively on relationships with others and ourself, and damage our ability to trust.

Having completed advanced additional training in Trauma Therapy using a systemic approach, I can confidently use specific skills when working with trauma clients, including those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. CPTSD).

Not all trauma presents with PTSD or CPTSD however.   Actually, many emotional problems including, anxiety, depression, substance misuse, and physical health issues including obesity, heart disease, autoimmune conditions can sometimes be explained as an expression of unresolved trauma.

Part of the trauma work would involve using Psychoeducation, Cognitive Process Techniques, Emotional Freedom Techniques, Grounding Techniques and/or other combined techniques.
